The Magic of Cooking!

“Everything in moderation, including moderation.” – Oscar Wilde

When I read this, I immediately thought of food. It could be applicable to almost anything, but my mind took me straight to the kitchen. I think this means something.

I have always loved food. In my mind, cooking is like magic. You take all these carefully-chosen ingredients and then, like a witch huddled over a cauldron, you drop them into the pot at precise moments to create something magical.

Timing is everything. Knowing when to add certain ingredients is key to creating the flavours you want. Whether you add your tomatoes at the beginning or the end of the cooking process can change the flavour of your curry. And I personally love the green burst on my tongue of fresh coriander added to the curry pot moments before serving.

Having the right ingredients at hand is also crucial because perfect flavour combinations can create sensations tantamount to love spells for your taste buds.

How you cook your food is an important consideration. It could even be a part of the enjoyment. I love watching flames dancing on a black coal floor like belly dancers, casting their spell and hypnotising their audience, their  long red hot tongues extending upward and licking a juicy steak on the braai grid, making me wish my tongue was amongst theirs.

This why I love cooking. There is magic in it.

I hope you like my blog.
